ALIASES
You can set an alias on a specific cell to change the text displayed in the cell. If no alias is defined, the cell contains the name of the underlying joined stroke, or the name of the note. If an alias is defined, it will replace that name for all including patterns.
CELLS
A cell is the graphic representation of a stroke of a pattern. Its width is proportional to the duration of the stroke in the pattern. When this duration is altered by an action such as split, merge or cell width, the cell is automatically updated. Each cell keeps track of the last inserted item. When a new pattern is created, this item is a silence. Every time a rhythmic item (stroke, pattern, cycle) is inserted, the cell keeps track of it.
COMPONENT
A component is a rhythmic/melodic sequence, also called as an item. It is the basic building block of SwarShala. You can play them on their own in the Sequence pane, within a Practice session (rhythm or tune selected), or drag them within tracks of a complete song in the Tracks view.
COMPOSITION
A Composition is a set of one or more tracks that create a musical piece. It can also be referred to as a Song.
JOINED / MELODIC STROKES
Joined strokes are given a unique name, a description, and are linked with individual strokes at a given pitch and emphasis. A Joined Stroke can be linked with two such strokes (one for the left hand and one for the right), while a Chord can be linked to any amount of strokes.
RHYTHMIC / MELODIC CYCLE
A rhythmic or melodic cycle is a structured pattern for which you can specify a sam (starting beat) and khand (bars).
RHYTHMIC / MELODIC PATTERN
A rhythmic/melodic pattern is a sequence of strokes of a given duration. It can be short, like a complex stroke (tirekite, short taan, …) or long like a solo. A rhythmic/melodic pattern being a SwarShala item, it can also be inserted in a cell; in that case, the cell is divided into the correct number of cells with their relative duration and settings.
TRACK
A track is a long sequence that represents an instrument in a composition. It can contain MIDI events (Instrument track) or audio clips (Audio track). You can drag SwarShala items onto an Instrument track, and you can record your voice or another instrument onto an Audio track.
