The SwarShala Indian music software includes Halgi and over 100 other perfectly sampled virtual Indian instruments.
Halgi is a flat drum made of wood, iron, leather, and parchment. Wood is the main material used in creating the circular wooden frame. In other words, a piece of flattened wood is made into a circular shape. The leather is then spread over the circular wood ring and then fastened by a cord around the circumference of the wooden ring. The result will be a straightened skin over a circular piece of wood. When the leather is dried, it gains the ability to produce a drumming sound when strummed.
Halgi is very popular in the folk music of Maharashtra and Gujarat. It can be played by hand or with 2 sticks.
